Magnolia Warbler

I’ve been using the Merlin app to improve my knowledge of bird songs, and it has helped me learn a lot more than I knew before. Yesterday afternoon, it called a Magnolia Warbler and a Cape May Warbler.

The Cape May would be a somewhat rare bird here, so I took some time looking for both of them. I’ve learned that when a bird drops straight down, ten or twenty feet, that it’s probably a warbler. Using that clue, I was able to find the Magnolia Warbler, but the Cape May – if it was really here – eluded me.

The Magnolia is probably the best bird I’ve seen this fall. I can’t recall having it here before. We’ve also had several Summer Tanagers in the past few days. Otherwise, the migration has been a little slow so far.
