With the cold snap, the oaks briefly brightened in color, but they’re back to a dull kind of a red or orange. There are more of them in color than there were before, but the color isn’t brilliant. The same goes for the hickories and maples. There’s still a lot of yellow in the woods, but it is fading as the days go by. The sourwoods and the scarlet oaks, which usually produce a brilliant red, either never turned or turned only a subdued color.
There are still a lot of leaves on the trees, but there’s a thick carpet on the ground. It’s definitely time to think about blowing them.
