The dogwoods are fading at our elevation. There are still some in bloom, but most of them are declining, and some are dropping their petals.
There’s some flame azalea in bloom, looking incredibly beautiful as always, but most of them haven’t come. I don’t think they will, unless we get some rain soon. There’s some hope of that this weekend, but I’m not betting the ranch. It’s been too dry, too long.
There’s a pair of Carolina Wrens building a nest in the yard. I hope it’s successful, because I like seeing little wrens everywhere. They’re neat little birds, and they aren’t nasty like the Northern House Wrens. I don’t know how many different calls they have, but it must be dozens, at least.
The pollen isn’t as heavy as it was, but it’s still pretty thick. I think if it would rain, the tree pollen would mostly be over for the year, but it is just continuing to build. The fact that there’s usually been some wind certainly doesn’t help.
