It stormed last night, and we were under a tornado watch from about 8:00 PM until 1:30. There was an actual tornado warning that included Cherry Log, so there was a real risk. Despite that, there doesn’t seem to be any damage where we are, about two miles southeast of Mineral Bluff. There were widespread power outages. Our power was off from about 1:00 AM until about 9:30 AM. We did not get the 1-2 inches of forecast rain. In fact, it doesn’t seem to have rained much at all.
I saw three Brown Creepers yesterday, climbing on our Mockernut Hickory. That’s a bird I see here only rarely. I usually see them up north, where they like to fly about twenty feet up one tree, and then fly over to the next tree, rarely going more than about twenty feet up the tree before flying to another. These yesterday were going all the way up in the tree, I suppose in response to the scarcity of worms at this time of year. I’m guessing these birds were migrants, as their eastern breeding range is up north in the Great Lakes states and Canada.
