Today is the spring equinox.
Yesterday, I saw the first butterfly of the season, a Tiger Swallowtail. They’ve become the dominant butterfly here, at least in terms of numbers. The first butterflies used to be the Mourning Cloaks, but I don’t think I’ve even seen one for the past year or two. The Red-spotted Purples also used to emerge early, and they outnumbered the Tiger Swallowtails considerably, but their numbers seem to have declined lately.
One of our redbuds is in full bloom, while the others are lagging somewhat behind. One of our sarvis (Serviceberry) is trying to bloom, while the others are not yet showing any signs.
