Waterfowl & Songbird Migration Starting

Based on what I’ve seen in the birding reports from Georgia and Indiana, it looks like the migration is getting underway. I saw three buffleheads last week in the cove at Morganton Point, which tends to confirm it. I haven’t seen anything interesting in terms of songbirds, but there have been multiple reports of Baltimore Orioles as near as DeKalb County. It may be time to start taking the binoculars out to the porch again.

The long string of unseasonably – for us – cold weather has finally broken, at least for the moment. We’re looking at a forecast of rain for the rest of the week and a flood watch starting tonight. Monday is forecast to bounce back cold, but it was about 55 on the deck this morning, a welcome change from the low 20s, even with the rain.
