We’ve had a longish period of really drenching rains. One of the storms dumped about four inches at our place, and other parts of the county got more. That day, it rained about as hard as it can rain, and I’m sure it did some real damage to a lot of driveways. The green stuff is growing about as fast as I’ve ever seen it grow, and I can personally report that the poison ivy is having a very good year. I’m hopeful that it will dry up a bit in the coming days, because my tomato bushes are starting to get the same old blight that they’ve had for the past several seasons.
There’s a very well kept secret over in Blairsville, which is called the Union County Community Center. At least, it is pretty much a secret outside of Union County. The building, which has been open about a year, sits at the west end of the golf course, and the bottom floor houses the pro shop, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Development Authority. Upstairs is a very large meeting room – our company had a daylong meeting and expo there not long ago – that hosts banquets, meetings, and weddings. At one end of the second story, there is a small restaurant, The View Grill. There is a nice second story porch overlooking the golf course off the restaurant, and the kitchen is staffed by folks from the culinary program at the North Georgia Technical School. I believe they have a full bar, but at least I remember seeing beer and wine on the menu. The summer hours are Monday through Saturday 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM, with the kitchen closing at 7:00 PM. We haven’t eaten there yet, but the menu looked good, and it is definitely a very inviting and welcoming space, both inside and out. For more information, 706.439.6054.
