Summer Flowers Blooming

We snuck away for a few days vacation, as we usually do around Memorial Day, so I can’t report on Arts in the Park. We did make it to the Friends of the Library Booksale, which is always a good event.

The laurel has been in bloom for a week or so, but I haven’t seen the rhodendron blooming yet. We’ve seen a few scarlet pinks and other summer flowers, and I’ve noticed the Northern Harriers working the valley along with the usual Broad Shouldered and Red-tailed Hawks. We’re basically moving into high summer, although I have seen a few migrating warblers still coming through our yard.

We haven’t been to our favorite bookstore, the Friends of the Library Bookstore in Haysville, North Carolina, while. We were over there the other day and were surprised to see that they had completed their move into their new space in the library, diagonally across the street from their old location. It is a much nicer space, and the ladies have done a wonderful job decorating it with interesting antiques and other objects. They seem to discarded many of the unsalable books that were clogging up the old location, and the new space really feels like a book store that’s fun to browse. I have no hesitation in saying it is the best bookstore anywhere in these parts. They don’t have a phone, so you can’t call them, but they are open six days a week, closing now at 4:30 PM.
