UPDATE: At 11:00 PM, we have a flood warning on until 10:25. EMS reports Hwy 5 bridge is closed in McCaysville. I’ve never seen Cutcane Creek this high. The report from the office is that some of our people cannot get out of their driveways.
It’s probably a good time to remind folks that you can sign up for text alerts from our EMS at Nixle.com, under “Resident Resources.”
We had a very strong thunderstorm last night, and it rained as hard as it can rain for quite a while. I can see from the porch that Cutcane Creek is either out of its banks or nearly out of it’s banks, and that probably means that Long Creek has flooded the extreme north end of Lowrey Road. The weather service has us under a flash flood warning, and the Fannin EMS reminds us that it would be dumb to drown on Christmas Eve, so don’t drive into flooded areas.
It looks as though the rain will continue, with a couple more inches forecast for the next day or two. If your cabin is in a flood prone area, you should probably check with neighbors to see what’s happening.
