Signs of Spring: First Mourning Cloak

I forgot to mention that I saw the first Mourning Cloak Thursday afternoon (3/29). I saw the first Tiger Swallowtails yesterday (3/31). It strikes me that there’s usually a longer interval between the two, the Mourning Cloaks being early to emerge. But they are rare here. I didn’t see a single one last year, and I’m always looking for them. I also saw some other smaller butterflies that I wasn’t quick enough to identify.
