Rabies Vaccine Is Being Dropped in Fannin

Rabies vaccine is being dropped in Fannin and other North Georgia counties in packets about the size of fast food ketchup packets. This is a USDA program to combat rabies in skunks and raccoons. The vaccine is supposed to have been tested on sixty species and found harmless. This presumably includes dogs and humans. Nonetheless, I’d discourage your dog from eating them, if possible.

By the way, this is an excellent reason not to feed the deer or the bears, and such feeding also attracts raccoons, which are almost always rabid. You probably don’t want to know what you will have to go through if you are bitten by a rabid raccoon. Or if you dog is bitten by a rabid raccoon.
