Pickin’ at Horseshoe Bend, Adventure Race Weekend

Pickin’ at Horseshoe Bend Park is back on, every Thursday starting around 6:00 PM. This is a great place to have a picnic and listen to some good local bluegrass. Those not interested in the music can always fish trout in the river. Bring a lawn chair. From Blue Ridge, go up Hwy 5, cross the river, turn right on Hwy 60, and turn right just before the tracks. The park is just a bit up river from there.

This Saturday, the Adventure Race is on, this time with an 8 and a 24 hour race.  The route is always a secret of sorts, but it usually ends in the downtown Blue Ridge park, and it’s usually a pretty good time in the park when the racers start to cross the finish line in the early afternoon. Here’s some more information: “Save the date! The Blue Ridge Adventure Race and the Atomic Adventure Race are races that are held in Northwest Georgia. In 2015 these races combined and are part of the Blue Ridge Adventure Racing Weekend. The 2015 Blue Ridge Adventure Race will start in downtown Blue Ridge Georgia Saturday May 30. Two races, an 8 hour and a 24 hour race. Disciplines: Mountain Biking, Trekking and Paddling. Race director Jeff Leininger will be setting 2 incredible courses. Teams will be able to choose between the 8 hour race and the 24 hour race. Both races will start at 9 AM.”
