Mennonite Farmer’s Market Open in Delano

I’m here with the happy news that the Delano Community Market is open. The first day was today. They will be open tomorrow, and Friday and Saturday next week. Then they plan to go to their six day schedule. We bought cornmeal, green leaf lettuce, bunch of field green lettuce, scallions, turnip greens, oregano, cilantro, basil, spinach, bok choy, white potatos and eggs. We also got some tomato plants and herbs from the greenhouse. To find it, navigate to Benton, TN and take 411 north (watch the speed limit). When you cross the Hiwassee, look for the sign a short distance further on the left and follow the signs. Best farmer’s market I’ve been to since I left Pennsylvania.

Our older sarvis bloomed this morning, despite the 38 degrees. But they seemed further along in Tennessee, along the gorge and the road through Reliance. The redbuds there are starting to come, and there were many sarvis in bloom. We also saw a beautiful stand of what I think was toothwart on the road from Reliance back to the gorge. Bad place to stop the car, but I think that identification is correct.
