After a little unforecasted snow on Thursday and a fairly cold day Friday, today has dawned sunny, with a forecasted high of 58. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and a bit warmer. It should be a great weekend for a outing or a hike.
Twice Over Memphis is playing the Last Stop Bar & Grill (formerly the Whistlestop) tonight, starting at 8:30. The announcement says there is a “small cover charge.”
The Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble is playing the Keith House at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC on March 11:
“Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble – 7:00 pm The Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble was founded in the fall of 1999 to give Berea College students with background or potential in bluegrass music an opportunity to play in a “working” bluegrass band with weekly rehearsals, performances, travel, etc. Members are selected by audition, and typically remain with the group until they graduate from Berea College. Members also earn academic credit for each semester of participation in the group. The band has toured in Ireland and Japan The ensemble is directed by Al White, formerly a member of the Bluegrass Alliance and the McLain Family Band.”
The following day, they are playing at a Contra and Square Dance event, also at the Keith House at the Folk School. Note that they ask beginners to come early.
“Contra & Square Dance with The Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble and Bob Dalsemer; who has taught and called traditional contras and squares throughout the country for nearly 40 years. For the past decade he has been principal instructor at the annual Mountain Folk Festival in Berea, KY. The Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble was founded in the fall of 1999 to give Berea College students with background or potential in bluegrass music an opportunity to play in a “working” bluegrass band with weekly rehearsals, performances, travel, etc. Members are selected by audition, and typically remain with the group until they graduate from Berea College. Beginners, singles and couples welcome. Beginners should come promptly at 8 pm, since we start with easier dances and more teaching early in the evening.”
Also on March 12, the Boro Inn is featuring the Gopher Broke Band, and the Last Stop is presenting South Rock.
That same day, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (Anglican) is presenting the Atlanta Boy Choir. (The time was not included in the announcement, and I haven’t been able to reach anyone at the church this morning.)
