In our area, the dogwoods are fully in bloom. We’re at about 1,956 feet, so it may be different at the higher elevations. But I’m pretty confident that there will be quite a few in full bloom in most areas of the county. This weekend will probably be the peak, unless we get a heavy thunderstorm that knocks the blooms off the trees. I think it’s too early in the season to worry much about that, but it’s hard to tell with the dogwoods.
The native azalea – the orange ones – started about a week ago in sunny locations, but most of them still aren’t in bloom. Some of the cultivars seem to come early, and I’ve seen more of them in bloom in people’s yards than the wild ones.
