Bird Walk Saturday

Our local birding authority, Tom Striker of Blue Ridge Bird Seed is leading a bird walk Saturday. Here’s his announcement:   Bird Walk June 6th Join us for a little local birding on Saturday, June 6th at 9:00 AM. Migration is over and nesting is well under way. We’ll go to our favorite local hotspot, Fannin County Park. Our list for the park is over 125 species, and the variety has been amazing over the years, and at all seasons. Hoped-for species include Indigo Bunting, Orchard Oriole, and Blue Grosbeak. Scarlet Tanager and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher should be around, along with a variety of nesting warblers, a woodpecker or two, Killdeer, Bluebirds, Mockingbirds, Turkey Vultures and ????? Meet at Blue Ridge Bird Seed Company on East Main in downtown Blue Ridge to join the caravan, or go straight to Fannin County Park, north on Highway 5 about 3 miles from the McDonald’s corner at 515. Bring binocs and your field guide and dress for the weather. Mornings have been dry, with afternoon showers, but you never know!

There have been some changes to the deer hunting regulations, and that affects us all, and I’ll try to report on those when I’ve had a chance to look them over more carefully.

Our local Trout Unlimited chapter is having their annual fundraiser on Saturday, June 13 at North Georgia Ford. This is a reworking of the event that used to be known as the High Country Boil. This year it features a band, Topper. Here’s their announcement:  6:00 PM on Saturday, June 13th. Toccoa Trout Fest is Trout Unlimited’s big annual fund raiser, featuring BBQ dinner, silent auction and music by the nationally-known band, Topper. Tickets are $25.00 in advance, $30 at the door.
